Demystifying FAFSA Deadlines and Requirements:

When completing your financial aid application, requirements and deadlines can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with FAFSA. Although it is nothing to feel stressed about, it is still important to know this information to be ready when starting your college application process.

Financial Aid Eligibility

Basic requirements for FAFSA include:

  • Financial need for the need-based federal student aid

  • To be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen

  • Have a valid SSN (with exceptions of students from certain countries)

  • Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program

  • Maintain good grades throughout your course in college or career school

  • Provide consent that your federal tax information can be transferred directly to your FAFSA

  • Proof that you are qualified to receive higher education (GED)

FAFSA Deadlines

When it comes to FAFSA deadlines, there are really three deadlines that you should be aware of when enrolling into college:

  1. School Deadline: This deadline varies from school to school and may be earlier or near the FAFSA date.

  2. State Deadline: This has to be in accordance with your state of permanent residence, not the state that you may have moved to for educational purposes.

  3. Federal Deadline: This deadline is the most crucial one of all because after this one, the window for submitting financial aid for the academic year is completely closed. This deadline is almost always June 30th.

At EDFIN, we are not merely focused on readying students for college; we are dedicated to shaping their future. With more than three decades of experience and a stellar record of guiding thousands of students to success.
